Steal this!!!

So guess what - I AM NOT A THEIF!!! (Target, get it right!)

I don’t know what is going on but lately EVERY TIME I walk in and out of said store, I set the theft alarm off. Talk about shame – it makes me feel guilty even though I would NEVER steal anything…NEVER!!! I literally want to melt away…

So it happens….BEEP BEEP BEEP (some stores even have lovely, red, flashing lights…how kind)

It seems like people from all over the store immediately begin staring at me trying to decide what I am attempting to steal. Now that I have realized that it is bound to happen, I pull the old “glance back” move so that it at least looks like there is some mistake and I am checking to see if anyone wants to see my receipt. I figure if I just blow through the doors without looking back, it might actually look like I’m trying to escape the store without getting caught.

I have been narrowing down the common denominators if you will, to see what may be causing this and the only thing that I had with me every time was my purse so I am assuming that the purse is the culprit!!! I have turned it upside down and inside out trying to find something in this purse that is causing me to beep…no resolution so far.

This I know – I am no thief!

Do you every carry perfume in the box that it came in in your purse? I kept setting the alarm off at walmart before and it was the box that some perfume was in.

my sister set the alarm off in Off Broadway Shoes and the lady working there said it was probably because of her Coach purse. She took the purse and "demagnetized" it like you would with any secirty tag (take your credit cards out before allowing them to do that) and ever since then she was fine! The lady said a lot of designer bags cause this problem. Hope this helps!

My cell phone used to set them off. One time a nasty lady demanded I hand her my phone and walk through again just to make sure I wasn't stealing anything.

I hate it when this happens. I had a box of cold medicine in my purse that kept setting off the alarms. I hope you find the source of what is setting of the alarm soon.

I hate alarms! I honestly think they are so pointless. I used to work for Clinique & Estee Lauder & people at all the dept. stores constantly set off the alarms & no one did ANYTHING about it. Ha! I'm sure it's something silly like your purse tag or something - oh well!

i used to work in a store and i know that a lot of clothing stores-like gap and banana republic-put the sensors inside the clothing (inside the lining or on the tags) and most people don't realize it or can't fix it without de-magnetizing everything. also your phone can cause it. hope you figure out what's causing this to happen!

From working in a store before... I think things such as digital cameras or any electronics for that matter sometimes set off the alarms!

This used to happen to me all the time! The culprit? One of those magnetic strips SEWN into my wallet. If you have an expensive wallet/purse, the alarm device may never have been deactivated and will set off the alarm...the worst part is that they are usually sewn into the lining! Next time you are at the retailer ask if you can swipe your purse/wallet over the "deactivating pad" that they use to disable the magnet!

Oh - make sure you take out your phone, ipod, and credit cards before though!

How aweful! For as much as I frequent Target, this would really begin to suck!

Try your phone? That's happened to me before, but not consistently...that's awful! I hope you can figure it out soon!

Cell phone, hidden tag in purse, and a pair of Old Navy pants with the security tag sewn in to the inside seam. Oy ... I had it happen several times!

HA HA! My purse (or my planner) sets off certain stores alarms. I feel your pain. I am finally breaking down and getting a new one because my husband will no longer walk into a store with me. I have had the store, de-code my purse so many times and nothing helps!!

I set off the alarms with my Gap and Old Navy shorts/jeans/capris. They have those tags inside you're supposed to cut out and I never remember. I just keep walking and act like it never went off. :)

My Coach purse use to do that too...and it was at Target! Ive been told that expensive purses and wallets will do that sometimes.

I just searched my Coach wallet and found TWO of the sensors stuck down in the credit card slots. It's amazing how I never knew they were there or how they didn't come out on their own.
