Easter Eggs...Gone Horribly Wrong!

Hay ya'll!!  Can you believe that Easter is THIS Sunday??  WOW...time really does fly!  I guess now is as good a time as any to tell about my Easter egg shenanigans of the past.

Who hasn't tried the "latest and greatest" egg dying kits at least once in their lives?  I am no exception.  One year in particular, my dad got me the tie dye kit and we couldn't wait to try it out.  We made a little assembly line out on the porch, the weather was perfect...little did we know about the hideousness that would soon occur.

The way it works SHOULD have been simple.  You take your egg, wrap it in a special fabric and then use a dropper to mix and match different colors.  The goal is to end up with perfectly dyed eggs, tie dye style!!

This is what the eggs should have looked like...

...but they really looked more like THIS!!!!  Boooooooo.

Instead of actually producing the tie dye effect, the colors tend to run together and you end up with ridiculous eggs and a waste of time.  In theory, they would have been fabulous!

My solution??  Eggs wraps!!!!  They are amazing and couldn't turn out better.  I have always dyed the eggs a BRIGHT color (as opposed to the drab browns/greens above) and THEN put on the eggs wraps or "shrinky dinks" as I so lovingly call them.  Then you can take it from there and add whatever you want!

Ever had an egg dying disaster???  Ever tried egg wraps??

I have tried the egg dying and mine turned out the color of Harley's poop. Which by far was not the look I was going for. I haven't tried to dye anything since.

i think i ruined an outfit back in the day, and after that we went to the wraps, or stickers. much more kid friendly (and adult friendly lol)

I remember egg wraps! They were the best. My grandma and I used to make them when I was little. I forgot how cute they were.

You have me laughing so hard right now...no offense, but I don't think they could have come out worse! I did not know that eggs could even turn that color (unless rotten!) Heaven forbid KIDS were coloring these eggs...they might have been scarred for life. Thank you for sharing, both the Hubby and I got a good laugh over it :)

You know what? I actually like the eggs in the second picture better. The colors are more muted yet iridescent and unique. Makes me feel like they could have come from some exotic, imaginary animal!

You are brave! I leave the eggs up to other family members!!

I love egg wraps too!! I get really annoyed that there are only 3 in the Paas egg dyeing kit. I love the moment you drop them in the water and they shrink to fit the egg perfectly :-)

haha aww your eggs aren't bad, just very artsy...

egg wraps sound fun, have never tried them!!!!

I always, always, always get egg dye on the floor. My mom makes me dye easter eggs on the porch at her house, like I'm still 5, because she doesn't want me messing up the carpet :)
