The Nail Polish Throwdown of 2009

A classic case of varying opinions in the office: nail polish at work…yes or no?

The whole thing started because I mentioned that I needed to go get my nails done after work and that I was a little burnt out on the whole French Manicure thing. One of the ladies mentioned that I should switch to painted nails for a time or two which I am not opposed to as long as it is not something extreme. Another lady spoke up quickly and said that it is absolutely unprofessional and rather unacceptable to wear any kind of nail polish to work no matter what color it is.

I have always been told that something light is fine for the office but apparently I missed something along the way.

What do you think? Is it unprofessional to wear nail polish to work??

I think it is fine to wear nail polish to work. Nothing too extreme though but a classic red or a very netural color.

I wear nail polish at work...I have never had an issue with it. I don't see why it would be a big deal - especially if it's a light pink or neutral tone!

im all for polish! except for a yuckylike blue or yellow, which is unacceptable anyways!! and keep them looking nice...i think nails with chipped polish is kinda gross ;)

I think as long as it is a normal color, not blue, green, yellow, orange, etc..nail polish is good!

I think as long as it's a tasteful color, it's fine! I do!

i wear all sorts of colors...but i work in a newsroom, not a corporate environment, so it doesn't matter =) they are OPI "it's all greek to me" today!

I'd rather see polished nails at the office then ragged yucky nails! I am all about any color as long as it appropriate for what you do and they are clean and unchipped.

I have always warn very light colors to work - I worked for a very conservative company and I felt completely comfortable in them!

I have hear about some places thinking nail polish in any color is a no-go and I just don't understand that!

I have never in my life heard anyone say that... I think you could certainly wear nail polish anywhere...

One of my favorite neutral tones is OPI "Get Me to the Taj on Time"... you might like it.

I wear nail polish all the time. I thnk that as long as you keep your nails neat and filed and use "normal" nail polish colors, it is fine. I actually think manicured hands look better than plain hands for work!

I think it is perfectly fine to wear nail polish to work...like allthe other said..no crazy colors or chipped nails but pretty pinks or reds would be fine.

I think as long as your nails are kept clean and polished looking, you're good to go. I wear very, very dark red on my toenails and wear open toed shoes in my office, but I always keep them polished and looking nice. I think the same applies for your hands, look nice, clean, and professional!! ;)

I think it is perfectly ok to wear nail polish to work. But if you are looking for something light and neautral, Bubble Bath by O.P.I is awesome...I wear it daily!

what?! that is rediculous! I have worn black to a previous job and no one said a word about it! And I was in a very professional setting! I think as long as your naisl are cut nicely then whatev! Tell your co-worker lady to get with the times!

I think it can be considered unprofessional depending on the color...However, if it is something classy, I don't think it should matter, but I could understand if you had bright green nail polish. I'm a nursing student and we are not allowed to have any fake nails or have our nails painted anything but clear,so during the summer I am always getting manicures!

I think that polish is great, as long as it's a classic color.

Save the day-glo oranges and yellows for the club!
